My name is Pam, and I created this website to share my love and enthusiasm for the German language and culture. I started learning German about a decade ago in college. What started out as simply fulfilling a course requirement quickly turned into a life-changing adventure, as I learned more about this beautiful language and culture. I’ve since spent quite a bit of time there, and I was lucky enough to live in Berlin for two years.
The biggest lesson I’ve learned from living abroad is that people from all over the world, from different cultural and language backgrounds, are actually more similar than different. We all want more or less the same things out of life; we have the same fears and desires. Nevertheless, everyday habits can be quite different across cultures. Experiencing a different culture can be difficult at times; however, I’ve found so much wisdom in the German culture of practicality, frugality, and leisure. At the same time, I’ve come to appreciate aspects of the culture I grew up with that I previously took for granted.
My goal with my writing is to help shed light on some of the wisdom in the customs and attitudes that I learned from living in Germany that have made my life so much richer. Additionally, I want to provide tips and resources to anyone traveling or thinking of moving to Germany. Most of my content focuses on Berlin because that’s the city I know best, but I also try to include as much content as possible about other cities. I hope you enjoy my blog, and please feel free to contact me with any questions or suggestions!
